The new advice, produced by the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA) has been developed with the support of the Local Government Association and the National Police Chiefs' Council.

City of Wolverhampton's Public Protection team has been visiting city centre bars and pubs to provide venues with copies of the new guidance and discuss their plans for the football season.

The guidance is intended as a template for licensees, local authorities and police to work together to ensure that the FIFA World Cup is a safe and entertaining experience for everyone to enjoy.

Advice includes key information for licensees to ensure all safety measures are in place, CCTV is working correctly and all staff members are being vigilant for suspicious behaviour or anything that seems unusual.

Councillor Steve Evans, Cabinet Member for City Environment at City of Wolverhampton Council said: "The World Cup has always been an enjoyable occasion, creating a fantastic atmosphere not only in Wolverhampton, but across the country.

"It is vital that venues are aware of the importance of health and safety standards before hosting World Cup events to reduce the risk of disruption in their premises.

"I welcome the new guidance and hope that licensees follow the advice to ensure all events are run safely and smoothly so everyone can enjoy the football season."

Venues will also be advised to make public transport information available to assist customers in leaving venues safely.
