Linda Turner, Macmillan's Community Support and Information Outreach Manager, is preparing to travel to the palace next week.

Linda and her team of volunteers are based in libraries across the city and provide people affected by cancer, their families and carers, with up to date, relevant information and support about all aspects of cancer.

She said: "I am very proud to represent Macmillan and be given the opportunity to visit Buckingham Palace, it is a lovely gesture and I am really looking forward to the Garden Party.

"I consider myself really privileged to work in a field in which I get to meet truly inspirational people, both those affected by cancer and ones I meet professionally."

Linda was nominated to attend by her colleague Marika Hills, Macmillan Development Manager for Wolverhampton. She said: "I nominated Linda to attend to represent Macmillan because the event is intended to recognise people who have made a positive contribution to the community, and that really embodies what Linda does.

"She always goes the extra mile in order to respond to the needs of the patients she is seeing. She is very creative and dynamic, and is always enthusiastic in supporting any Macmillan activity and ensuring we are reaching and helping as many people as possible."

Robert Johnson, City Librarian, said: "The service that Linda and her team of volunteers offer through our libraries to help people affected by cancer is hugely important, and I'm really pleased that her efforts have been recognised in this way."
