Nearly 13,000 people are now signed up to the City of Wolverhampton Council's WV Active leisure centres – with membership more than doubling in the last few years.

WV Active offers a wide choice of sport and fitness activities for everyone in a safe and friendly environment at its 3 leisure centres, WV Active Aldersley, WV Active Central and WV Active Bilston-Bert Williams.

Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, Cabinet Member for Adults and Wellbeing, said: "It's great that more and more residents are taking control of their health and wellbeing and joining our WV Active leisure service.

“Membership numbers have more than doubled since the Covid-19 pandemic, from 5,337 then to nearly 13,000 today.

"As a WV Active member you get access to all three of our leisure centres, can take part in WV Active and Les Mills group exercise classes and book your sports and activities online.

"Whether you want to work out in the gym, take to the courts or running track, have fun with your family in one of swimming pools or just relax in a cafe, you can shape each and every visit around what you want to do – and with so much choice there’s always something new to discover."

WV Active venues include:

  • WV Active Aldersley, Hugh Porter Way, Aldersley, offering two fitness gyms and two exercise studios, athletics track, cycling velodrome, outdoor tennis and netball courts, sports pitches and indoor arena for badminton, tennis, indoor bowls, five a-side football and more

  • WV Active Bilston-Bert Williams, Nettlefolds Way, Bilston, boasting an eight-lane, 25m swimming pool, studio pool, fitness gym, 2 exercise studios, multi-use sports hall and squash courts

  • WV Active Central, Bath Avenue, Wolverhampton, has an eight-lane, 25m swimming pool, fitness gym and exercise studio

The council has recently completed a £1m refurbishment of the gyms at each leisure centre, providing customers with the very best equipment and latest technology.

WV Active has also teamed up with Wolves Foundation to deliver Yo! Active, offering a wide range of free physical activities for children and young people in Wolverhampton all year round, including opportunities at the 3 leisure centres. For full details, please visit Yo! Active

There are 3 WV Active memberships available – standard, corporate and concessionary – which can be used across three sites. A pay as you go option is also available. Details of membership packages are available at WV Active; members have access to all three facilities and can take part in unlimited fitness classes, gym usage and swimming.

Councillor Jaspal added: “We have a wide range of competitive membership packages available, so please take a look and find the option that best suits you and move more with WV Active in 2024.”

Meanwhile, WV Active has extended gym opening times until Tuesday 9 April to accommodate those fasting for Ramadan.

During this period, the gym at WV Active Central and WV Active Bilston-Bert Williams will be open until midnight Monday to Friday. Changing rooms will close at 11.30pm. Please note that this does not include weekends or bank holidays or WV Active Aldersley.
