People are being invited to support a festive appeal to make it a December to remember for the city’s young care leavers

The City of Wolverhampton Council’s Reach Leaving Care Team has launched its annual Amazon Wish List and is encouraging council staff, partners, businesses and residents to make a donation to help buy much needed Christmas gifts for care leavers.

The wish list has been developed in conjunction with care leavers and includes a range of gifts including chocolates, wellbeing gift sets and gift vouchers for people to choose from.

Get involved is easy – people can simply visit Amazon and purchase the item or items they would like to donate. The Reach Leaving Care Team will then wrap them up and deliver them to the young people in time for Christmas.

Alongside the Amazon Wish List, the Reach Leaving Care Team will also be hosting a physical collection point where people can physically donate items of festive food, chocolate or gifts. This is available at The Oasis Hub, 73 to 75 Willenhall Road WV1 2HW, every Thursday from 1pm to 6pm until 8 December.

Councillor Chris Burden, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “The Reach Leaving Care Team supports over 400 young people across the city and wants to make sure each and every young person has a gift from the council, their Corporate Parent, on Christmas Day.

“Gifts will also be distributed to care experienced young people who celebrate other important festivals and holidays across the coming year, so your gift will truly keep on giving well into 2024. Please make a donation if you possibly can.”
