A new Public Health England campaign is inspiring children and young people in Wolverhampton to get active with some of their favourite film characters.

The 10 Minute Shake Up features a range of fun games that children and families can play together throughout the summer holidays, featuring super heroes from Disney Frozen, Disney and Pixar Toy Story, Marvel and more.

The 10 Minute Shake Up website offers a range of Disney, Pixar and Marvel-inspired games as well as a Disney sports quiz to help parents find sports and activities perfect for their children. Parents can also order 10 Minute Shake Up packs via the website, containing more games with activity cards that can be taken out and about over the summer holidays. Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said: “The 10 Minute Shake Up is a great way for children, young people and their parents to enjoy regular, short bursts of physical activity in the company of some of their favourite Disney, Pixar and Marvel characters and movies.

“I’d encourage families to sign up to this year’s campaign and get active this summer.”

Dr Lola Abudu, Director of Health and Wellbeing for Public Health England in the West Midlands, said: “Recent research showed less than half of children across the country are meeting the recommended daily minimum of 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise. This has a knock-on effect to wellbeing and, coupled with any bad eating habits people may have adopted during lockdown, this can really have a negative impact on children’s health.

“During lockdown many families spent much more time together, and we have seen that some people have come together with their children to enjoy new activities – with 69% of families in the West Midlands taking up walking and 36% starting to cycle together.

“We hope this summer, children will get outside playing with friends and family, having fun, building their confidence back and reaching the recommended 60 minutes a day, inspired by these fun and easy 10 Minute Shake Ups.”
