Get ready for 2 days of nail biting tournaments as the British Kabaddi League Championships returns to Wolverhampton next month.

And people are being encouraged to snap up free tickets for the championships at WV Active Aldersley, in partnership with Wolverhampton Wrestling Club and the City of Wolverhampton Council.

The league was originally launched in Wolverhampton in 2022 to mark the prominent role of the Midlands in British Kabaddi and the event is returning for its third year next month.

Kabaddi, a contact team sport originating from India, is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, and the second most popular sport in South Asia, following cricket.

During the tournament, the ‘Wolverhampton Wolfpack’ will take on 6 other teams representing major cities across the UK, including Birmingham Bulls, Walsall Hunters, Manchester Raiders, Coventry Chargers, Nottingham Royals and Sandwell Kings.

Councillor Bhupinder Gakhal, Cabinet Member for Visitor City, said: “We are excited to welcome back once again the British Kabaddi League to the City of Wolverhampton for its third season.

“We are a city who are proud of staging major sporting events and we are pleased to see the British Kabaddi League has become a staple on our sporting calendar.

“This event sets the stage for next year, when we have been awarded the honour of hosting group stage matches in addition to the quarter finals, semi finals and  final of the men’s and women’s Kabaddi World Cup in March 2025.

“I would like to wish the best of luck to all those competing in the British Kabaddi League, with a special mention to Wolverhampton Wolfpack, who will be proudly representing our city.”

The British Kabaddi League returns on Saturday 20 April and Sunday 21 April. There are 5 games scheduled to take place on both days. Doors will open from 10am for the morning session and 1pm for the afternoon session.
