A naming ceremony is a way of celebrating the birth of your baby and welcoming the new arrival into your family. It is a personalised way of pledging your parental commitment to the child before your family and friends. You may also include other adult friends and relatives to acknowledge their special relationship with the child or children.
It can also be a welcome for stepchildren or adoptive children into a new family.
You can include in the ceremony celebratory certificates, for parents, grandparents and supporting adults, all signed by them and the registrar. The child/children can be of any age and the parents, legal guardians or anyone holding parental responsibility may arrange a ceremony, regardless of marital status, cultural or religious beliefs. Please note the ceremony does not have any legal standing.
Renewal of Marriage Vows
Are you a married couple that would like to celebrate a special anniversary with the renewal of your marriage vows? These ceremonies are appropriate for a couple at any stage of married life, or they can be a means of celebrating a special anniversary such as your Silver Wedding (25th).
Some couples who get married abroad choose to renew their marriage vows in a special event held for family and friends here at home.
Special people in your lives can take part in your ceremony such as your children, guests who were at the wedding and any friends and relatives. You will also need to ask two people to witness the signing of the certificate of the event.
Who can have a ceremony?
Any married couple, of any age and married for any length of time, can arrange a Renewal of Marriage Vows Ceremony. It does not matter if you do not live in the area where you want your ceremony.
A 'celebrant' will conduct your ceremony but will not be acting in any official capacity, even if they also work as a registrar. Celebrants are trained and experienced in conducting many different ceremonies so please ask their advice on anything you are unsure about.
Ceremonies can be conducted in the Bantock Suite or The Lady Wulfruna Suite here within the Civic Centre or at any of the approved premises in the City (details of which can be obtained from the register office).
