Children and young people in Wolverhampton are enjoying a summer of fun and excitement with the Summer Squad.

The City of Wolverhampton Council has coordinated a wide ranging programme of activities featuring hundreds of events and activities taking place across Wolverhampton during the school holidays.

There are more than 300 Summer Squad activities planned over the next few weeks - with more being added every day. They include arts and crafts, holiday clubs, sports and games, family fun days, science workshops and much, much more. Most events are free, and parents, children and young people can see and book activities at #SummerSquad.

This week, hundreds of children have been enjoying the good weather by taking to the city's parks for Summer Squad activities.

They include sports, games, football, science and yoga sessions with The Way Youth Zone which are taking place at West Park, Ashmore Park, Heath Town Park, Hickman Park and Tettenhall Rock throughout the summer - locations and activities vary. More than 100 people attended the first event at West Park on Monday, with dozens more joining in the fun at Ashmore Park yesterday.

Meanwhile, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Strengthening Families Hubs have also organised an extensive Play in the Park programme. Activities vary from location to location but are likely to include parachute games, den building, ball games, water play, obstacle courses and a range of arts and crafts.

The Play in the Park activities are designed to boost confidence, encourage teamwork and develop new skills and are aimed at children aged 5 and over - but under 5s are welcome if they are accompanied and supervised by adults at all times.

Councillor John Reynolds, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "Summer Squad is certainly capturing the imagination of our children and young people and it's great to see so many people joining in the fun - in particular by getting out and about in our parks and green spaces and enjoying the summer sunshine.

"But it's not all outdoors - there are also some fantastic events at our galleries and museums and libraries, while groups across the city have organised a wide range of wonderful activities for children and young people of all ages.

“In fact there's so much going on that there’s sure to be something for everyone, no matter what you are interested in or where you live – please check out the website, #SummerSquad, to find out what’s happening."
