Wolves fans have been urged to continue playing their part in the city's fight against coronavirus.

The number of cases of Covid-19 in Wolverhampton has significantly increased over the last month and public health chiefs are calling on the Wolves faithful to help protect their friends and family.

Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said: "Cases of Covid-19 have jumped in recent weeks and we’ve already seen the Government introduce new local and national measures to help prevent the transmission of the virus.

“We’re calling on Wolves fans to help us by doing everything they can to stop the spread of Covid-19. We’ve missed out on so much this year and I understand that everyone is desperate for a return to normality, but it's important that we all remain vigilant – not just to keep ourselves safe, but to protect our family, friends and others.”

Wolves stars Conor Coady and Pedro Neto have given their support to the campaign, telling fans: “Remember that coronavirus hasn't gone away. We are all on the same team. We need you to be smart, play your part and protect your family and friends.”

You can see Conor's and Pedro's messages below.

Wolves fans are urged to play their part by following the Hands, Face, Space guidance:

  • Hands: Continue to wash your hands more often, and for 20 seconds at a time.
  • Face: Wear a face covering over your nose and mouth where required.
  • Space: Maintain social distancing from people you do not live with or are not in your support bubble, both indoors and outside.

Latest data shows there were 66.43 cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 people in Wolverhampton in the 7 days up to 21 September, compared to 53.83 per 100,000 in the 7 days to 14 September.

People with symptoms of Covid-19, no matter how mild, should immediately self isolate and book a test by visiting Coronavirus (COVID-19) or calling 119. Symptoms include a fever, a new, continuous cough or a loss or change to a person’s sense of taste and smell.

Anyone who tests positive for Covid-19 will be contacted by NHS Test and Trace and will be asked to share information about people that have been close contacts recently.
