Wolverhampton will celebrate its new look city centre market with an official launch event on Saturday 7 May from 10am to 2pm.

The re-invigorated and modernised outdoor market and purpose built cabins opened for business on Tuesday.

Now City of Wolverhampton Council and traders are inviting people to go along and enjoy the entertainment as well as sample the stalls at Market Square.

Chase, star of TV's Paw Patrol, will be on the case for the kids to have their photo taken with him during 30 minute slots from 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm and 1.30pm.

Wolverhampton chef Mike Whitehurst of Takefood will be making the most of fresh ingredients from the market in special 20 minute cooking demonstrations at 11am, 11.40am, 12.20pm and 1pm.

Dicky Dodd and the Signal 107 roadshow will pump up the volume throughout the event.

City of Wolverhampton Council Service Director for City Environment, Ross Cook, said: "The new look market is already proving popular with customers and has received positive feedback.

"We hope the launch event will encourage even more visitors to see what is on offer at Market Square.

"The new cabins bring the existing indoor and outdoor markets together to enhance the customer experience.

"It will provide vitality and important footfall to this area of the city and is another example of the regeneration of Wolverhampton."

The markets relocation signals another phase in the changing face of Westside, which, as a major development opportunity in the city, received a number of submissions of interest from the UK's leading developers and investors.

The former indoor market and Heantun House will be demolished, with work due to begin in the summer. The site will be converted to car parking to cover the period prior to redevelopment.

Market Square is one of three markets in Wolverhampton, with Bilston and Wednesfield markets also popular places to shop.
