People in Wolverhampton can be among the first in the UK to try out a new swimming fitness scheme.

British Gas Swimfit is inspired by the structure of a gym programme but instead gives people the chance to workout in the pool.

Central Baths and the Bert Williams Leisure Centre will be launching weekly Swimfit classes from next month - and those taking part will be given support and motivation from qualified instructors to help them achieve their goals.

Councillor Elias Mattu, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure and Communities, said: "Swimfit is all about getting results and helping you achieve your goal - whether that is to lose weight, get toned up, improve your technique or just to become fitter and stronger.

"It is a fun and effective way to get the results you want, and because water is 800 times denser than air you are likely to get there more quickly than other forms of workout."

The Swimfit sessions will take place at Central Baths in Wolverhampton on Wednesdays from 11am to 12pm starting on 4 September, 2013, and at the Bert Williams Leisure Centre in Bilston on Sundays from 2.30pm to 3.30pm starting on 15 September, 2013, and Tuesdays from 9pm to 10pm beginning on 17 September, 2013.

The sessions cost the same as regular swims, and for more information please contact Central Baths on 01902 552150 or the Bert Williams Leisure Centre on 01902 552430.

Fit Swim will also be launched at Wolverhampton Swimming and Fitness Centre, Bentley Bridge, later this year.
