City of Wolverhampton Council is to carry out summer carriageway improvements in the Graiseley, Merry Hill and Penn areas of the city between Monday 24 July and Friday 25 August.

The project is being financed by the Department for Transport Local Highways Maintenance Challenge Fund.

The works are planned during the school holidays to minimise disruption, with Coalway Road, Penn Road, Goldthorn Hill, Warstones Road, Trysull Road, Oxbarn Avenue and Church Road to undergo much needed resurfacing before they fall into disrepair.

Residents and businesses fronting the roads concerned have been kept fully informed by letter in advance of the works, while roadside information signs have been or will be visible prior to each set of works getting underway.

Councillor Steve Evans, Cabinet Member for City Environment, said: "It is important to stress that finance for these works will come from the Department for Transport Local Highways Maintenance Challenge Fund.

"Due to the large number of residential properties in these areas we are unable to carry out these works overnight.

"But we will be working during off peak hours only and during the school holidays to minimise disruption.

"I apologise in advance for any inconvenience the works may cause residents and businesses but carrying out these works now will make good these roads for many years to come and should prevent larger scale works in the future, which would have resulted in a much larger bill."
