It has a range of events for all the family over the coming weeks, many linking to the gallery's forthcoming exhibition exploring the art and archaeology of the Bronze Age, Re-Making the Past.
They include prehistory inspired workshops in textiles, metal and clay and suitable for children aged 5 to 12. They take place today (Wednesday 29 July), Tuesday 4 August, Wednesday 5 August, Tuesday 18 August, Wednesday 19 August and Tuesday 25 August from 11am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 3pm, and cost £3 per child. Booking is essential.
Bilston Craft Gallery's annual summer garden party, taking place on Wednesday 12 August from 2pm to 5pm will also celebrate Re-Making the Past.
Visitors will be able to step back in time to discover what life was like in a Neolithic House and create a Bronze Age brooch or paper sailing boat inspired by ancient sea journeys. There will also be facepainting, henna body art and refreshments on sale, while younger visitors can enjoy Craftplay activities. Entry is free though small charges apply for face painting and henna activities.
Further Craftplay sessions for children aged seven and under will be held on Thursdays 30 July, 13 August and 27 August from 10.30am to 12pm and 1.30pm to 3pm, giving youngsters the chance to explore the gallery's garden and discover nature or build dens. Craftplay costs £3 per child and booking is essential.
Re-Making the Past, a touring exhibition from the Devon Guild of Craftsmen, goes on show from Saturday 8 August until Saturday 31 October, 2015, and features work by artists Mary Butcher, Susan Kinley, Helen Marton, Syann van Niftrik, Gary Wright and Sheila Teague. They have carried out extensive research into the lives and creativity of our Neolithic ancestors and created new work in textiles, clay, metal, glass and more.
Councillor John Reynolds, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for City Economy, said: "Re-Making the Past promises to be a fascinating exhibition, and Bilston Craft Gallery is putting on a range of activities for visitors young and old who can discover the art and archaeology of the Bronze Age this summer."
Bilston Craft Gallery is open Tuesdays from 10am to 4pm, Wednesdays from 10am to 7pm, Thursdays and Fridays from 10am to 1pm and Saturdays from 11am to 4pm. Entry is free.
