Older people will be taken back in time to the 1940s later this month.

Blakenhall Resource Centre is holding a series of events for service users - many of whom lived through the period and have vivid memories of the era.

The centre offers a wide range of services for older people with mental health needs and reminiscence is an important form of therapy for people with conditions such as dementia and Alzheimer's Disease as it can help them relax and improve their mood.

The centre will be decorated with memorabilia including posters from the 1940s featuring a potted history of Wolverhampton and showcasing advertising, fashion, food and famous faces from the period.

Staff will be dressing in period costume while there will also be film and game nights and a 1940s-style buffet. Service users will enjoy a trip to The Staffordshire Regiment Museum at Lichfield and the month-long celebration will end with Blakenhall Resource Centre marking Armed Forces Day on Saturday 29 June, 2013.

Blakenhall Resource Centre manager Carol Samuels said: "The 1940s were a significant period in history with lots of life-changing situations which are well-remembered by many of our service users.

"We hope that by taking them back in time to this important era, they will be able to reminisce about their childhood which in turn will have a very positive impact on their health and well-being."
