Parents and carers of children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) are being invited to a free event which will help shape a collective vision for SEND services in Wolverhampton.

The Spotlight on SEND, organised by Wolverhampton SEND Partnership and Commissioning Board and strategic partners Voice4Parents and Changing Our Lives, will take place on Friday 4 October from 9.30am to 2.30pm.

Parents and carers will have the chance to join representatives of the City of Wolverhampton Council and Wolverhampton Clinical Commissioning Group to work together and shape the Board's SEND Strategy for 2020 to 2025. Representatives from voluntary and community organisations, Voice4Parents and young people from Wolverhampton Challenge Board will also be taking part in the day.

The event will seek to inform key priorities for 2020 to 2025, and agree what sort of support families need in order to be able to live an ordinary life.

There will also be a chance for families to find out about the new Education Health and Care (EHC) Hub, a digital platform for EHC plan assessments and reviews which is due to be launched next month, hear the results of the Voice4Parents annual survey and discover the SEND Local Offer, available at Wolverhampton Local Offer which showcases the help and support available to children and young people with SEND in Wolverhampton.

Councillor Dr Michael Hardacre, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: "This free event is a great opportunity for families of children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities to have a real say in the city's SEND strategy for the next 5 years.

"They will also be able to meet and share their experiences with other families and key decision makers from the council and clinical commissioning group."

Spotlight on SEND will take place at a city centre venue. Places are limited and are available on a first come, first served basis, so must be booked in advance. To reserve a place and find out more, please call Nicola Harris on 01902 554302 or email sendteam@wolverhampton.gov.uk. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
