Parents or guardians of pupils currently in Year 6 are being urged to think now about which secondary school they would like their child to attend from next September - with the window for applications for secondary school places now open.
And over the next few weeks, all 17 secondary schools in Wolverhampton will be providing parents and children with numerous opportunities to see what's on offer before they make their choice.
A series of open days and open evenings are being held, with details available at Type=articles;Articleid=2548;Title=School admissions; or by contacting secondary schools directly. Should any of these times prove difficult, it may be possible to make an appointment with headteachers for parents or guardians to visit at a mutually convenient time.
Councillor Claire Darke, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Education, said: "If your child has recently started their final year at primary or junior school, now is the time to start thinking about their secondary school place for September 2016.
"That may seem a long way off, but the closing date for applications for secondary school places is the end of October 2015.
"All Wolverhampton's secondary schools are holding open days and open evenings over the coming weeks, and I'd urge parents to see for themselves the facilities on offer and choose their preferred schools before the application deadline."
Parents or guardians must apply for their choice of secondary school online at Type=articles;Articleid=2548;Title=School admissions;. Applicants will be notified of their child's allocated school place on 1 March, 2016.
Councillor Darke added: "Wolverhampton's secondary schools have undergone a major transformation in recent years, and I'm sure parents and pupils will be impressed by what they see.
"We invested £270 million in new and refurbished accommodation through the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme and this has provided modern learning environments that our young people can be proud of.
"We are also working hard to raise school standards across Wolverhampton, and 76% of our secondary schools are now rated good or outstanding by Ofsted, compared to just 57% two years ago."
