The site of the former council owned Jennie Lee Centre site in Wednesfield is set to be redeveloped for 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes, including apartments and family housing for sale and rent.
Wolverhampton City Council has now handed over the former office and training facility to the developer Taylor Wimpey and work will soon start on the demolition to make way for the construction of the first houses.
Of these properties, 54 that are built will be affordable housing to help buyers to get on to the property ladder.
In addition to the housing, a number of environmental improvements will also be made including the creation of a large area of open space for residents, enhancing the canal towpath and implementing road safety measures.
The grass pitches and the synthetic surface on the site are all being reprovided at other locations within the city as part of the wider Wolverhampton Sport Development and Investment Strategy.
Councillor Peter Bilson, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration and Prosperity, said: "We are delighted to announce Taylor Wimpey has been signed up to redevelop this site.
"The creation of more new housing in Wolverhampton, especially affordable properties, is one of our top priorities and this development will certainly help us achieve that.
"It is also very pleasing that the whole area will also benefit from a number of environmental enhancements as part of this scheme."
