National Windrush Day celebrates the 75th anniversary of HMT Empire Windrush bringing passengers from the Caribbean to Britain in 1948, and marks the contribution and achievements of the Windrush generation and their descendants.
This morning, the Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Dr Mike Hardacre, was joined by guests including speakers Alicia Spence, Director of the African Caribbean Community Initiative (ACCI), and Bishop Paul Thomas, Windrush Ambassador, to honour, celebrate and recognise the Windrush legacy at a flag raising ceremony in St Peter’s Square.
