Wolverhampton Music Service has been successful in its bid to the BBC's Ten Pieces initiative and as a result a group of musicians from the broadcasting company will come to the City in July to work with local school pupils.
They will take part in rehearsals and workshops, helping the children and young people compose a new piece of music along the way.
The Ten Pieces initiative was launched 4 years ago with the aim of opening up the world of classical music to a new generation of children, inspiring them to develop their own creative responses to 10 different pieces of music using a variety of art forms, including composition, digital art, animation, performance poetry, dance and movement.
The Music Service has organised large Ten Pieces events each year, but this is the first time that there will be a coaching element.
The BBC employs over 300 world class musicians in its orchestras and choirs, as well as music educators, leaders and conductors with a range of skills and talent.
Sarah Fletcher, Assistant Headteacher of the Music Service, said: "We are delighted that we have been successful in our application to the BBC Ten Pieces coaching scheme.
"The BBC will visit Wolverhampton on 11 July for a day of music making alongside our young musicians, sharing their knowledge and expertise whilst also helping them create a new piece of music."
Wolverhampton Music Service provides tuition and musical opportunities for youngsters from schools across the city, including the chance to perform with its flagship groups, Wolverhampton Youth Orchestra and Wolverhampton Youth Wind Orchestra.
