City of Wolverhampton Council will begin £1.45 million improvement works to one of the city's key gateways - Stafford Road (A449) - next month.

The carriageway between Gorsebrook Road Island and Oxley Moor Road is to undergo reconstruction and resurfacing in both directions.

The project is being fully financed by Department for Transport funding through the Maintenance of Classified Roads grant.

Works are expected to start on Monday 13 March for around 8 weeks and will take place in 8 phases.

Works will take place overnight, between 7pm and 5am on weeknights (Monday to Friday) only, with comprehensive traffic management arrangements in place to minimise disruption to residents and businesses.

The initial works will only affect the southbound carriageway before works then switch to the northbound carriageway on 3 April.

Councillor Steve Evans, Cabinet Member for City Environment, said: "It is vital to our local economy that we maintain our key city gateways to the highest standards.
