Children and young people, their parents, carers, and other stakeholders are being encouraged to have their say and help shape provision for children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) in Wolverhampton.

They are invited to take part in a consultation on the draft Wolverhampton Strategy for Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities which will guide the City of Wolverhampton Council and its partners in the long term development of provision for children and young people with SEND.

The strategy sets out the vision and key priorities that council and partners in the city want to focus on to improve the lives of children and young people with SEND over the next 3 years. This strategy signifies a commitment by all SEND Partnership Board partners to work together to achieve their vision and ensure that:

  • children, young people and their families feel empowered and well supported
  • Wolverhampton is an inclusive city
  • young people feel well prepared for adulthood

The strategy also supports the city’s 10 year Children, Young People and Families Plan which aims to improve the resilience, health and emotional wellbeing of children, young people and families in Wolverhampton.

The consultation will begin on Tuesday 14 July and run until Monday 21 September, 2020. To see the draft strategy and have your say online, please visit Consultation Hub.

Councillor Dr Michael Hardacre, the City of Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “It is vital that children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities live in an inclusive city where we work together to support them and their families to lead a good quality life and achieve their full potential.

“The council and its partners are committed achieve this and we need to ensure that we are able to continue to meet the needs of our children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities. This strategy will shape the vision and priorities of the SEND Partnership Board’s offer to children, young people and their families for the next 3 years.

“I would strongly encourage parents and carers of children and young people with SEND, and all other stakeholders, to have their say by taking part in this consultation.”
