Inspectors visited Fallings Park Primary School in Low Hill last month and found that Headteacher Jon Hopkins and his team were providing effective and strong leadership, had maintained a good quality of education at the school and were making a "significant difference to the lives" of their pupils.
The leadership team knows "the school, the pupils and the community in which they live extremely well", and strives to ensure pupils receive a "good quality of education in a calm and nurturing environment". Inspectors found that the quality of care, guidance and support given to pupils and their parents and carers was a particular strength. Staff are "excellent role models" to pupils, they said.
Pupils were found to be well behaved, both in lessons and at break time, and told inspectors their school was a "safe and happy place where they are looked after well". Inspectors found that leaders and governors place a high priority on safeguarding matters and receive high quality training to keep them informed of all types of risk to children.
Well devised training, coaching and mentoring programmes have successfully maintained good and effective teaching, and collaborative work with other local schools has supported improvements in both teaching and learning. Teaching and assessment had improved since the last inspection, in November 2012.
Meanwhile, inspectors found that governors have a "clear overview of the school's strengths and areas for improvement", and that the school swiftly implements steps to tackle any weaknesses as they are identified - for instance introducing a walking bus and breakfast club which has had a positive impact on punctuality and attendance.
Mr Hopkins said: "I am pleased to see recognition of the strong leadership, good quality education and the hard work of children and staff in the report.
"There is so much that is positive in the report but a good summary is the phrase, 'you and your team are making a significant difference to the lives of your pupils'. We will ensure that this continues to be the case."
