The Friends of West Park have launched a new club giving people the chance to keep fit while at the same time making sure the Victorian park continues to look spick and span.

The Friends' Keep it Green Club will be running regular Fit and Active Friday sessions including gardening, weeding and pruning in the Friends' rose garden and litter picking around the park.

Charity trustee Monica Evans said: "We are all volunteers and are looking for like minded people to join us in getting active and fit while enjoying gentle gardening and tidying in our lovely West Park.

"Weather permitting, we will be meeting every Friday morning at Kingsland Lodge, off Kingsland Road, at 9.45am for light gardening followed by a litter pick and stroll around the park."

Councillor Steve Evans, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for City Environment, said: "The Friends of West Park do a fantastic job helping the council keep our premier park looking its very best all year round. This is a wonderful new initiative and I hope as many people as possible will be able to join them on a regular basis.

"It's also a great way for people to get some gentle exercise and help maintain their health and wellbeing."
