Free checks are being offered at a new Health Hub set up at the Mander Centre to help monitor and improve people’s lifestyles.

The Health Hub is offering full NHS Health Checks for people aged from 40 to 74. This includes blood pressure, pulse, weight and height measurement and cholesterol point of care testing, along with advice on healthy eating and lifestyle.

Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said: “The health check provides a real chance for people to take control of their own health and to help identify and address undiagnosed conditions that they may be living with before serious health problems develop.

“Very often simple lifestyle changes, such as eating more healthily or doing more exercise, can make a huge difference. If you are aged 40 to 74, you can get a free NHS health check once every 5 years at your GP, and to make it even easier, you can now get it from the Health Hub at the Mander Centre – so, if you are due a check-up, please get it.”

Thanks to a partnership between the council and The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, the promotion is being led by preventative health promotion concern the Living Well Group, part of One Wolverhampton.

Rachael Berks, Senior Matron for the Living Well Group, said: “The health check service at the Mander Centre hub has proven to be very popular with good uptake from Wolverhampton residents.

“Patient feedback has been excellent and the ease of access at the city centre location enables walk-in and booked appointments seven days a week. We are looking forward to developing this service further in the coming months.

“While we are targeting the 40 to 74 age group, anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to walk in to have their blood pressure, pulse taken and weight and height checked too.”

The Health Hub is located on the upper floor of the Mander Centre opposite Ryman. Covid-19 vaccines are also available for anyone aged five and above who still needs their primary course – first or second dose. This is available as a walk-in service for anyone aged 13+ from Monday to Sunday and as a booked appointment service for 5 to 12 year olds on a Saturday and Sunday only.
