Former councillors Bishan Dass and Richard Whitehouse have been named Honorary Alderman of the City of Wolverhampton.

The duo were conferred with the title in the council chamber ahead of last night's full council meeting.

Mayor of Wolverhampton, Councillor Barry Findlay, presented them with their badges and said: "It is a privilege to confer this title on former councillors Bishan Dass and Richard Whitehouse.

"This honour is in recognition of their eminent services to the council over many years."

Honorary Alderman Dass ceased to be a Member of the Council in May after 24 years' distinguished service. During this time he served on many council bodies and was Mayor of Wolverhampton from 1986 to 1987. He was also Chair of the Licensing Committee from 2006 to 2007 and again from 2011 to 2015.

Honorary Alderman Whitehouse also ceased to be a Member of the Council in May after 32 years' distinguished service. During his time he served on many council and external bodies. He was Deputy Mayor of Wolverhampton from 1992 to 1993 and Mayor from 1993 to 1994. He was also Chair of the Scrutiny Board from 2008 to 2010.
