Bouygues UK has won the contract to build 77 homes at the historic Great Brickkiln Street location in a £10.5 million scheme. The homes will be developed through Bouygues UK's property development business, Linkcity.
A quarter of the homes will be set aside as affordable council houses at an estimated cost of £2.5 million, which will come from the council's Housing Revenue Account.
The remainder is to be sold as market housing, with the development consisting of a mixture of 2, 3, 4 and 5 bedroom houses, plus 5 apartments, including 2 wheelchair accessible flats.
Councillor Peter Bilson, City of Wolverhampton Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for City Housing and Assets, said: "This is an exciting time for house building in the City of Wolverhampton with a host of projects springing up to benefit everyone.
"It will be great to see the land where the Tower and Fort Works used to sit brought back to life.
"It is ideal for a new residential development as it is close to Wolverhampton city centre, is well served by transport links, and is near shops and leisure facilities.
"This project supports the house building programme and will deliver quality homes for all."
Construction is expected to start in the final quarter of this year, and should be completed by Autumn 2019.

This scheme follows the announcement in April of the same developer being selected to build 150 high quality homes on three derelict sites in Low Hill - the former Armitage Shanks Tap Works Factory site, Fifth Avenue and Broome Road.
