Diwali, the festival of lights, will be celebrated at Phoenix Park in Blakenhall this weekend, featuring Bollywood and Punjabi singer Master Saleem who will be performing at his first Mela in the UK.

The City of Wolverhampton Council has teamed up with the Shri Krishna Mandir, Gulshan Radio and other organisations for the annual Diwali Mela on Saturday 22 October, 2016, from 4pm to 9pm.

It will feature music and dance with Master Saleem and his band, guest performers Atma Aheer, Inderjit, Shinda Sureela, K B Dhindsa and Ravi Sharma, plus other singers, dancers and entertainers, culminating in a spectacular firework display as the lights are switched in the evening.

There will also be a wide range of stalls and refreshments.

Councillor John Reynolds, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for City Economy, said: "Diwali is the biggest and brightest festival in India and we are delighted to be helping to celebrate it here in Wolverhampton.

"The event at Phoenix Park promises to be great fun for all the family, featuring excellent entertainment and a fantastic fireworks display."
