As part of its tough new approach to fly tipping, City of Wolverhampton Council has seized a vehicle used to carry out multiple fly tips across the city.

The vehicle has today been seized at Chetwynd Road, Wolverhampton at its registered address and currently being held as evidence.

The vehicle has been reported to have been used in several fly tipping incidents including a number of visits to fly tipping hotspot Drayton Street, Wolverhampton.

The council has a right to seize any vehicle suspected of involvement in fly tipping, under the Control of Waste (dealing with seized property) Regulations 2015.

Councillor Steve Evans, Cabinet Member for City Environment at City of Wolverhampton Council said: "Fly tipping is a serious crime that will not be tolerated.

"This is the first time we have been able to use these new powers to seize a vehicle used for fly tipping and it won't be the last.

"We are committed to tackling fly tippers and will take all necessary measures to stop this criminal behaviour and to keep Wolverhampton a clean and attractive place to live, work and visit."

The City Council has contacted the registered keeper for an interview under caution regarding the fly tipping and to claim the vehicle. If the registered keeper does not come forward to claim the vehicle the Council will keep it to sell or dispose.

The seizure follows the launch of the City Council's 'Keep Your Street Neat' campaign which is clamping down on fly tippers.
