The APSE annual service awards, now in their eighteenth year, celebrate the very best in local government who strive to improve their frontline services.
The winners were announced last night (Thursday 13 September) at the APSE Annual Seminar 2018.
The City Council has won the award for 'Best Service Team - Environmental Health, Trading Standards and Regulatory Services' for its Courtaulds remediation project, a 13 year project addressing industrial contamination on a local housing estate.
The scale and complexity of this project necessitated impeccable teamwork with other services, partnership working with public and private sector organisations and engagement with residents who were in a distressing situation. Residents now have peace of mind due to the dedication of the City of Wolverhampton Council's Environmental Protection team.
Councillor Steve Evans, Cabinet Member for City Environment at City of Wolverhampton Council said: "I'm so pleased we have won a national award for the Best Service Team.
"These awards recognise the hard work and dedication carried out by our frontline services and our commitment to improve and protect our city.
"Our Environmental Health, Trading Standards and Regulatory Services teams have worked together to make a significant, positive impact on the lives of our residents and for that, I could not be more proud.
"I would like to congratulate everyone involved and thank them for their continued efforts in making the City of Wolverhampton a cleaner and safer place to live, work and visit."
The Council's Snow Wolves scheme was also shortlisted for 'Best Community and Neighbourhood Initiative (including Community Safety) in this year's awards.
