City of Wolverhampton Council has developed its first Primary Authority Partnership with Marston’s PLC to provide national bespoke business support one of the largest employers in the city.

A Primary Authority Partnership provides businesses with the opportunity to receive assured and tailored advice from a chosen local authority to meet environmental health and trading standards regulations.

The new partnership will enable Marston’s PLC to benefit from:

  • a single point of contact at the local authority who knows the business
  • reliable and robust assured advice
  • consistency of regulation across Marston’s sites
  • a reduction in unnecessary checks and inspections for businesses
  • overall reduction of business risk

From a local authority perspective, the scheme:

  • supports local economic growth through stronger business relationships
  • improves the consistency of local regulation and target resources on high risk areas
  • protects front line resources through recovery costs

City of Wolverhampton Council has operated a successful home authority arrangement with Marston’s PLC for food hygiene for a substantial period, which has led to the new partnership.

Councillor Steve Evans, Cabinet Member for City Environment at City of Wolverhampton Council said: “This is the first partnership of its kind for the city and I’m pleased to be developing our existing relationship with one of Wolverhampton’s largest employers.

“We have a fantastic relationship with Marston’s and I’m pleased to see the city council as their Primary Authority to support them on a national level.”

Richard Webster, Group Head of Health and Safety at Marston’s PLC said: “We have been working closely with Wolverhampton City Council for a long time now and have seen the benefit to having accessibility and valid business support on both a local pub and head office level.

“To develop this to a Primary Authority Partnership with our local council is a great success story for not only Marston’s but also the City of Wolverhampton.”
