The Bert Williams Leisure Centre's Swim School has got spaces for young swimmers who have mastered the basics but want to learn more.

The Bilston leisure centre currently has vacancies on its Stage 3 to 7 swimming lessons, suitable for children and young people aged from 5 upwards.

Stage 3 classes are aimed at children who can swim 10 metres or more and want to improve their front and back crawl techniques, while Stage 4 builds on this by including the breast stroke and treading water. Stage 5 classes are for those who want to be able to complete 15m using the front and back crawl and breast stroke and will also introduce the butterfly stroke.

Stage 6 teaches children how to complete 25m using front and back crawl and breast stroke, and to swim to a good standard using the butterfly stroke, while Stage 7 sessions will enable them to complete 100m using front and back crawl and breast stroke and 25m using the butterfly.

Councillor Elias Mattu, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure and Communities, said: "We currently have some vacancies on our Swim School lessons at the Bert Williams Leisure Centre and this is a great opportunity for young swimmers to develop their skills."

The 30 minute lessons take place during term time and are led by Amateur Swimming Association accredited coaches. Each session cost £3.30 per child, with discounts available for any additional children.

Places are available on a first come, first served basis, and to find out more, please contact Laura Woodward at the Bert Williams Leisure Centre on 01902 552430.

Please note that the Bert Williams Leisure Centre's Stage 1 and 2 sessions, teaching more basic skills including swimming with armbands and up to 5m unaided, are currently fully booked, however anyone interested is urged to join the waiting list which is in operation.
