Applications are now being taken for secondary school places for students who start Year 7 in 2018 - and education providers in Wolverhampton are inviting prospective pupils and parents to see what they have to offer.

Parents or guardians of pupils who are currently in Year 6 and who will therefore be starting secondary school next September have until 31 October, 2017 to apply for a place at their preferred schools.

The application process is quick and simple, with parents encouraged to log on to Type=articles;Articleid=2548;Title=School admissions; and complete their application as soon as possible.

To help parents and pupils make their decision, all secondary schools in Wolverhampton will be holding open days and evenings to give them the opportunity to see what's on offer. Further details are available at Type=articles;Articleid=2548;Title=School admissions; or by contacting secondary schools directly.

Councillor Claire Darke, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Education, said: "We have some fantastic secondary schools in Wolverhampton, demonstrated by the fact that early indications show that GCSE outcomes have improved again this year.

"If your child has recently started their final year at primary or junior school, now is the time to start thinking about their secondary school place for September 2018.

"While that may seem a long way off, it's important to remember that the closing date for applications is 31 October, 2017. Last year, a record number of applications were submitted on time, and applying by the closing date can increase the chances of receiving a place in a preferred school."

Councillor Darke added: "All Wolverhampton's secondary schools are holding open days or evenings over the coming weeks, and I'd urge parents to see for themselves the facilities on offer and ensure they select their preferred schools before next month's deadline for applications."
