Volunteering opportunities are available to people who can spare a few hours and would like to join two City of Wolverhampton Council teams who support children and young people.

Drivers with their own vehicles are being encouraged to join the Children and Family Support Volunteers, who transport children and young people to and from school and adults to day services in and around the city.

To become a Children and Family Support Volunteer, drivers must have their own transport and undergo a DBS check. They will receive reimbursement for mileage as well as child protection, safeguarding, health and safety and first aid training to enable to them to carry out this important role.

Volunteers are also being invited to become Independent Visitors and help contribute to the welfare of a child or young person in care by supporting their developmental, social, emotional, educational, religious or cultural needs. Full training will be provided.

To find out more about becoming a Children and Family Support Volunteer or Independent Visitor, please call the City of Wolverhampton Council's Volunteer Co-ordinator Lisa Sidaway on 01902 556703 or email lisa.sidaway2@wolverhampton.gov.uk.

Councillor John Reynolds, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "We have a small group of dedicated volunteer drivers and independent visitors who support our children and young people, but we are always on the lookout for more.

“We would love to hear from anyone who is interested in either role and would like to give something back to the local community by joining our excellent teams."
