Adult Education Wolverhampton’s English and Maths students have recorded another good GCSE performance this year.

The service is particularly thrilled with the results in GCSE Maths Higher Tier, with all students achieving and 50% gaining a Grade 8 in what is the first year Adult Education Wolverhampton has offered this tier.

The awarding organisation AQA reported that Adult Education Wolverhampton’s GCSE Maths Higher Tier results were the best in the region at 74.1%

In GCSE Maths Foundation Tier and GCSE English over half of students achieved a standard or strong pass grade.

City of Wolverhampton Council Executive Director of Families, Emma Bennett, said: “Adult Education Wolverhampton has worked hard to deliver high quality teaching to adult learners. Congratulations to students and teachers on what is another highly credible set of results of which they should be very proud.”

Among those celebrating today (Thursday) is English student Tamicka Campbell Morris, who achieved Grade 4 after enrolling onto GCSE English at Adult Education Wolverhampton last year.

She said: “Suffering from depression, I was advised to look at doing something to occupy my mind. My 16 year old son was also studying for his GCSE so working together was a great motivation. I wanted to show him that if I could conquer my problems and gain a qualification this would motivate him to do the same.

“My course at Adult Education Wolverhampton has been great. My teachers’ style was creative and made learning a fantastic experience. Finishing the course has had a great impact on my self esteem, it’s boosted my confidence and made me realise that I am capable of progressing in learning and life. It has given me a real feel good factor and a qualification that will be beneficial to my future career prospects.”
