Sensory Inclusion Service (SIS)

Specialist support for children and young people with hearing and visual impairment.

The Sensory Inclusion Service (SIS) works in Wolverhampton with:

  • children and young people with a hearing or a visual impairment
  • their families
  • their schools or early years settings

How SIS helps young people reach their full potential

Our aim is to enable children and young people with sensory impairment to reach their full potential. We do this by:

  • supporting families from diagnosis of hearing loss or visual difficulty giving advice and guidance to carers, nursery settings and school staff
  • assessing functional (how hearing and vision are used in everyday situations) hearing and vision
  • giving audiological support
  • providing in-service training for settings
  • directly supporting class teachers
  • teaching one to one and small groups
  • providing educational advice for Educational Health Care Plans
  • offering support for transition to adult services
  • having a free pre-school playgroup
  • offering signing and Braille introduction classes for family and friends
  • offering habilitation (mobility and life skills) assessment and training for children and young people with visual impairment.
