A Step in the Right Direction

We have set three main objectives to make streets safer for residents and visitors:

  • Prioritising public safety and maintaining social distancing as part of COVID-19.

  • Redesigning public spaces to accommodate and encourage more walking and cycling

  • Reducing emissions as part of the Climate Emergency

In response to Covid-19, we have installed wide-ranging measures to support:

  • travelling to and from work
  • shopping
  • social distancing
  • walking around the city
  • cycling

Transport for West Midlands, the transport arm of the West Midlands Combined Authority, supports these measures with funding from the Department for Transport Emergency Active Travel Fund

Remember, we must all follow Government guidance and Legislation.

Measures

We will introduce measures on a temporary basis to begin with. We will look at making successful measures semi-permanent or permanent as we move towards a cleaner, greener city.

Consultation

You can give us your views on any of the measures on our Commonplace webpage.
