Asbestos is a hazardous material. We contract Wolverhampton Homes to collect Asbestos you have removed from your home. Make sure you know how to remove any Asbestos and have it collected.

We do not collect asbestos produced from work carried out by a trader. In these instances, it is the legal responsibility of the trader to remove the waste.

If you need to remove asbestos from your home, you can buy specialist bags from the Council. We will collect and dispose of the material at an appropriately licensed disposal facility.

    Removing the Asbestos yourself

For safety, it is important to thoroughly read the guidance booklet provided with the bags before removing any asbestos waste.

The asbestos must be double bagged and completely sealed with no gaps to prevent the risk of fibres escaping. The bagged waste must also be a suitable weight and size for the collection staff to be able to lift (no more than 20kg in weight).

Further advice on working with asbestos safely can be read on the Health and Safety Executive website or call 0845 345 0055.
