The table below lists the planned surfacing of roads during June – December 2026. Further details of planned resurfacing and lining locations will be provided once confirmed for the 2026-27 financial year.
Please note that this programme is subject to change at short notice as these activities are weather dependent.
Full details for each location listed below can be found online at one.network.
Local residents and businesses affected by these works will be notified closer to works commencing. If there are any changes to dates (due to weather) a further letter will be sent to residents to let them know.
Advanced warning signs will be in place at both ends of the scheme of works; any changes to dates (due to weather) will be reflected on the advanced warning signage.

Full Resurfacing
What to expect before, during and after full resurfacing
Access to frontages will be maintained and diversion routes will be put in place.
For this work to be carried out satisfactorily and on schedule we will require the carriageway to be clear of all parked vehicles during the above times. Your co-operation in this matter will be greatly appreciated.
Alternative bus route information will be available online @ nxbus.co.uk prior to commencement of works.
You should also be aware that:
- The works will involve the use of hot bituminous material which may cause burns and stick to footwear or tyres. Please therefore avoid walking or driving across newly laid surfaces.
- The process involves the use of heavy construction machinery. You are advised not to walk across the carriageway within the vicinity of works being undertaken.
- Pedestrian access will be maintained but care will be needed when passing the working area, particularly near plant and machinery.
- There will be raised manholes and uneven surfaces for a period.
- Bin collections will take place on your normal day.
Please be aware that householders are sometimes approached by firms claiming to be Council contractors and offering to undertake work such as surfacing drives. Please note that no contractor is authorised by this Council to carry out such work.
What is Full Resurfacing?
Resurfacing is undertaken when a carriageway reaches to end of its useful life, which is represented by deformation and significant cracking across extensive areas of the surface, which can no longer be repaired. The process involves planing off the surface courses then laying a new surface material to replace it. This process can be very expensive and time consuming, requiring significant plant to undertake the work, necessitating road closures for a number of days depending on the size of the job. The benefit of undertaking this work is that the road surface can last for 20+ years just requiring minimal maintenance.

What is Surface Dressing?
The roads in your area are inspected regularly by highway engineers to determine whether any maintenance work is required.
Surface Dressing is a process that is used to extend the life of an existing carriageway by sealing the surface to prevent oxidation and moisture ingress. The process involves spraying the existing carriageway surface with a bituminous adhesive then applying small loose stone chippings onto the surface and rolling them in place. A week later any loose chipping will be swept away before applying a coating material that locks the chippings in place. This process is a quick and more cost effective than resurfacing enabling road closures for a much shorter duration than other methods. The road surface can typically last for a further 7 years following the application of this treatment.
It is a speedy, efficient and economic method of preventative maintenance, causing less disruption to traffic and keeping the network flowing.
Main roads as well as cul-de-sacs can be surface dressed.
Due to the nature of the process it can only be carried out in dry weather and with the correct road temperatures, therefore works are typically undertaken from April to Early September. We anticipate surface dressing works to be completed by July/August 2026.
Micro Asphalt Surface Treatment

What is Micro Surfacing?
The roads in your area are inspected regularly by highway engineers to determine whether any maintenance work is required. It is important that road surfaces are sealed to prevent water ingress, and to prevent further deterioration to the existing surface. It is also important to have the correct surface texture.
Micro Surfacing is a mixture of polymer modified bitumen emulsion, small aggregate and cement. It will seal the surface, improve surface texture and prolong the life of the road for many years.
It is a dual application process, with the first application regulating the existing surface, and the second application gives the final surface.
Footway Micro Asphalt Surface Treatment is the same process as carriageway Micro but its hand laid instead of machine laid. Footways are pre-patched and cleaned prior to the treatment being applied.
It is a speedy, efficient and economic method of preventative maintenance and carrying out minor reprofiling of carriageway surfaces. The process is undertaken from February to November and may be weather dependent.
