What is the aim of a permanent Traffic Regulation Order?
- Improve safety for road users.
- Prevent damage to the road or buildings near the road.
- Create free-flowing traffic.
- Prevent unsuitable vehicles using the road e.g. articulated lorries.
- Preserve or improve the amenities of the area through which the road runs.
What are Traffic Regulation Orders?
- Waiting restrictions e.g. double/single yellow lines.
- Limited waiting and loading e.g. marked bays on the highway.
- Environmental weight restriction
- Structural weight limit
- Bus Lanes/Gates and Bus stop clear ways.
- School Keep Clear markings
- Speed limits
- One-way streets.
- Access and turning restrictions.
Who can enforce Traffic Regulation Orders?
Our Civil Enforcement Team are responsible for enforcing the following TRO's:
- Waiting restrictions – double/single yellow lines.
- Limited waiting and loading – marked bays on the highway.
- Bus Lanes/Gates and Bus stop clear ways.
- School Keep Clear markings
- Selected Moving Traffic Contraventions
The Police are currently responsible for enforcing:
- Environmental weight restrictions
- Structural weight limit
- One-way streets
- Access and turning restrictions
- Speed limits
- Footway and driveway obstruction
