Speeding causes a lot of concerns with road safety. To help address this, we review traffic speeds across the city.

To do this, we set up traffic speed monitoring equipment in areas causing concern.

This review data, as well as personal injury accident data, helps us to plan our annual Local Safety Scheme Programme.

This programme seeks to improve road safety by introducing traffic calming features. The aim of these features are to reduce the number of casualties on roads across the city.

These measures are usually implemented:

  • on residential roads carrying low volumes of traffic
  • where there is a history of personal injury accidents.
  • Where there are a low number of casualties, but speeds are high.

The Police deal with the enforcement of speed limits. Residents should use the non-emergency number 101 to request speed enforcement.
