People are being given the chance to pick up some vital work experience in Italy.

Wolverhampton Adult Education Service is running a new programme in association with the European Union's Erasmus Plus scheme, giving adults the opportunity to learn new skills and have a taste of working in another European country.

Up to 45 places are available on the programme and the Adult Education Service is currently seeking applications from people aged 18 and over who are enthusiastic about learning and keen to gain work experience abroad.

Successful applicants will join a special preparation programme run by the Adult Education Service where they will learn basic Italian and about Italian life and culture.

They will then head off on their placement in the Lombardy region of Italy. Placements are expected to last between 4 and 6 weeks, depending on the type of work, and will take place between January 2015 and July 2016.

They will receive funding from Erasmus Plus to cover the cost of their flights, accommodation and basic living expenses while on the placement.

Councillor Phil Page, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Schools, Skills and Learning, said: "Our Adult Education Service strives to help people learn employable skills and develop behaviours and attitudes that will best equip them for the job market.

"This project, supported by Erasmus Plus, will provide an excellent opportunity for up to 45 people from Wolverhampton to gain first hand experience working in Italy.

"They will be supported by an Italian organisation which provides placements especially in the fields of art and design, food preparation, youth work and supporting teaching and learning.

"I'd encourage anyone who is inspired by the chance of getting vital work experience in Europe to find out more about this exciting opportunity."

For further information on the programme, people should email judith.heywood@aes.wolverhampton.gov.uk , providing a brief summary of their previous qualifications, hobbies and any work or voluntary experience they have completed.
