As part of the Explore Your Archive campaign, which begins on Saturday 16 November, 2013, Wolverhampton Archives and Local Studies is encouraging people to take the time to visit their archive.

The Explore Your Archive campaign is encouraging people to discover the stories, the facts, the places and the people that are at the heart of our communities. Archives across the UK and Ireland are taking part to raise awareness of the value of archives to society and of the rich variety of content that is held, preserved and made available to users.

Wolverhampton Archives and Local Studies has pulled together the oldest document, the oldest newspaper, the oldest street map and many other interesting items to show people the kinds of things they can discover in the archive.

By looking through documents, maps, books, photographs, newspapers and much more relating to the history of all areas now within the present city of Wolverhampton, people have the chance to discover the history of their city - all in the sumptuous surroundings of a beautifully restored 18th century building. The Archives also have a wide range of resources to help people research their family history including census returns, records from local school, churches, clubs, societies and businesses, electoral registers and indexes to births, deaths and marriages. They also have a collection of 30,000 photographs plus films and recordings.

Wolverhampton Archives and Local Studies is inviting people to attend its event beginning on Saturday 16 November to Saturday 23 November, 2013 to explore their archive and to find out more about themselves and their city.
