The council has joined forces with the Wolverhampton Learning Platform, Ashley Housing, and Skills Training UK, to offer participants a customised training package of support at Bilston Resource Centre.

The course has enabled residents to achieve a Level 1 Accredited Warehousing award, as well as gain practical skills and knowledge of the warehousing sector.

The qualifications mean participants can now apply for pickers, packers, and store person vacancies in the city.

They will also receive ongoing support from Bilston Resource Centre and the Wolves@Work coaches to help secure employment.

Course participant Joanna Ciupin, said: "This will make finding a job easier for me because I understand how warehouses work now.

"The help I was given to show me how to look for jobs was really good and the skills and tips for job interviews was brilliant, they've made me feel more confident.

"We worked in groups which made learning the information much easier to understand and will be really important to working in groups in a warehouse."

City of Wolverhampton Council Cabinet Member for City Economy, Councillor John Reynolds, added: "This programme equips people with the vital skills that they need.

"This is a good way for residents to address their common need to gain new skills and receive employment support within their local community setting.

"It also again illustrates how working closely with city partners delivers this type of support to help our residents on the pathway to employment."

Skills Training UK operations manager, Manny Judge, said: "The skills team at the city council has been instrumental in coordinating this programme and I look forward to continued partnership working on future programmes.

"It has also been great working with Ashley Housing alongside Learning Platform."

The next programme will begin in autumn and anyone interested should contact Karen Sahota on 07881 358679 or email Karen.Sahota@wolverhampton.gov.uk.
