Adult learners from Wolverhampton are top of the class in the region, new research has revealed.

The Skills Funding Agency has released the results of a survey which show that Wolverhampton City Council's Adult Education Service (AES) has achieved the highest success rates for both long and very short courses in the region.

The survey covered all main providers, including other adult education services and Further Education colleges, in the Black Country and Birmingham.

It showed Wolverhampton AES had an 88.8 per cent success rate for learners completing long courses of 26 weeks or longer and 96.3 per cent for short courses of six weeks or less.

In addition to this, Wolverhampton also achieved the highest learner satisfaction rate at 9 out of 10.

A total of 465 service users from Wolverhampton, including some learners of English for Speakers of Other Languages, completed the survey.

Councillor Phil Page, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Schools, Skills and Learning, said: "I am extremely proud of the Adult Education Service which continues to go from strength to strength.

"The fact that the service has achieved the best results in the whole of the Black Country and Birmingham is a tribute to the dedication of the staff at the Service and to the hard work of the learners."

The Skills Funding Agency's Learner Satisfaction Survey is carried out under the banner of FE Choices, which compares the performance of further education colleges and other organisations that receive Government funding to educate and train people over the age of 16 on accredited courses.
