The Digital Learning Awards (Digis) will be held at the Grand Theatre on Monday 14 July and will celebrate the achievements of learners and teachers in film and media.

More than 500 entries have been submitted for 11 categories by pupils from 38 schools from across the city.

The categories for the Digis, formerly known as the 'Woscars', include animation, short film, podcasts, ebooks, digital music and most innovative practice.

Two ceremonies will be held on the day with Early Years and Key Stage 1 being handed their gongs from 1.30pm and Key Stages 2 to 5 receiving their awards from 6pm.

Councillor Phil Page, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Schools, Skills and Learning, said: "It is always thrilling to see the fantastic, creative skills of children and young people recognised.

"The talent on display and the standard of the entries seems to get better each year and the judges will have an incredibly difficult task selecting the winners.

"ICT is a very important part of the curriculum and pupils and staff in Wolverhampton have access to a range of fantastic software which enables our children to be wonderfully creative, producing animations, artwork, stories, films and podcasts.

"I am very much looking forward to the ceremony and everyone who has submitted an entry should be rightly proud of their work."

Parents will be able to purchase tickets to the Digis at a price of £2.50 and are available at the Grand Theatre Box Office on 01902 429212. The Box Office will be open Saturday 10am to 8pm, Sunday 5pm to 8pm and Monday from 10am.

If they are unable to make it, people can follow the awards on the live blog which can be accessed via Type=links;Linkid=3803;Title=DIGIs 2014 Live Blog;Target=_blank;.
