Young people will be getting on their bikes to pick up some essential safety tips when they take part in Bikeability sessions later this month.

Bikeability is designed to give young people the skills and confidence they need to ride their bikes on the open road.

Two-day courses combining Bikeability Levels 1 and 2 - introducing the fundamental points of riding a bike safely on and off-road and including a leisure ride around Wolverhampton - will take place on Thursday and Friday 30 May and 31 May, 2013.

One-day courses covering Bikeability Level 3, for more advanced riders to develop their on-road skills, will take place on Wednesday 29 May, 2013.

Level 1 and 2 courses are aimed at children aged between 8 and 16, while the Level 3 courses are specifically for young people aged 12 to 14 who have already completed the Level 1 and 2 courses. Please note that the courses are only for children who can already ride a bike.

Councillor Elias Mattu, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure and Communities, said: "Cycling is not only an easy way to get from A to B but it's also a great way to keep fit, and so it's important that our young people have the chance to ensure they are safe while they are out and about on Wolverhampton's roads."

The courses take place at Aldersley High School and will run from 9am to 3pm each day, with the two-day course costing £12.50 and the one-day course £6.25.

The sessions have been organised by Wolverhampton City Council's Community Development and Road Safety teams and places must be reserved in advance by completing an application form available at Type=links;Linkid=1656;Title=Bikeability Cycle Training;Target=_blank; or by calling 01902 556220. Bikes and helmets can be provided for courses subject to availability.
