Scores of people are working out for less after signing up for special off peak fitness passes.

Wolverhampton City Council is offering 30% off the price of Fit Cards for people who want to exercise between 9am and 3.30pm, Monday to Friday - saving up to £120 per year.

Three types of Fit Card are available. Fit Gym allows people to use the fitness facilities at the Bert Williams Leisure Centre, Central Baths or Aldersley Leisure Village, Fit Swim is for people who want to use the pools at the Bert Williams Leisure Centre or Central Baths and Fit Combi gives people access to a variety of facilities at all three centres.

There is no joining fee and people do not need to sign up to a long term contract.

Councillor Elias Mattu, Wolverhampton City Council's Cabinet Member for Leisure and Communities, said: "The Fit Cards offer excellent value for money for people who wish to take part in regular exercise or who want to get in shape.

"We offer 3 types of Fit Cards depending on what type of exercise people wish to do, and pricing options for those who only want to work out during off peak hours and people who wish to use them at any time. In addition, we also offer half price Fit Cards for the over 60s.

"For people who use our centres regularly, they work out much better value than simply paying for each session individually, so it's no surprise that around 3,500 people are already taking advantage of their Fit Cards."

He added: "The physical, mental and social benefits of regular physical activity are clear and we are keen to help people take part in regular physical activity by providing incentives such as this one - as well as others such as free swimming for young people aged 16 and under."
