Two service users were so appreciative of the help and support they received while staying at a council-run resource centre that they erected a plaque thanking staff.

Brian Hyde and Lilian Richards were residents on the respite unit at Bradley Resource Centre earlier this year - and had never been into a care home beforehand.

They were filled with trepidation before their arrival, but say they were overwhelmed with the help and support they got from staff.

Brian, who stayed at Bradley for around 10 weeks before and after surgery, said: "I had never been in a home before, this was my first time. Bradley Resource Centre exceeded my expectations as I was apprehensive about coming into a home; I had a warm welcome and my room was clean, tidy and bright.

"The care I have received was outstanding and the carers were loving and friendly - they always seemed to go above and beyond their duty of care."

Lilian, who spent three weeks at Bradley, added: "I was apprehensive about coming into short term care because of the national media attention given to residential homes. But I was overwhelmed by the hospitality I received at the centre."

The plaque was unveiled by Lord Bilston at a short ceremony attended by Brian and Lilian as well as staff, residents and family and friends. It reads:

This plaque is in recognition of our appreciation for all the care and love shown by the carers and staff during our stay in January 2013.

Many thanks, Brian Hyde, Lilian Richards and Residents.

Bradley Resource Centre is a short stay residential unit providing rehabilitation, respite and day services. It can support 23 residents at any one time. Around 60 staff work at Bradley Resource Centre, including health service staff.

Helen Heathcote, Manager of Bradley Resource Centre, said: "We are really proud of the service we provide at Bradley Resource Centre and it's a tribute to the whole team to be recognised in this way."
