Father Christmas and his reindeer are joining children and young people for some festive fun at Wednesfield's popular junior parkrun shortly.

They will be taking part in the 2km run around Wednesfield Park on Sunday 23 December, 2018, before handing out goodies, reindeer treats and more to the children and young people who join in.

The junior parkrun is a free, weekly fun run suitable for children and young people aged from 4 to 14. It starts at 9am every Sunday morning, with participants encouraged to run, jog or walk around the marshalled route for their own enjoyment and at their own pace. Parents can also join in if they wish.

It was launched in 2015 thanks to funding from the City of Wolverhampton Council and the invaluable support from members of Wolverhampton and Bilston Athletics Club, who help to marshal the route.

Councillor Hazel Malcolm, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said: "The junior parkrun is proving a roaring success - it's not only great fun but also a fabulous form of exercise.

"Santa and his reindeer are looking forward to attending the pre-Christmas run on 23 December, and I would encourage as many new runners as possible to join in the fun at what promises to be a very special event."
