Time is fast running out for families of children who are currently in Year 6 to apply for their secondary school place.

The deadline for applications is next Tuesday 31 October, 2017 - and parents and guardians are reminded that completing their applications before the deadline will increase the chances of their child securing a place at a preferred school.

Around three quarters of families have submitted their applications, while another 250 have started but not yet completed them.

Councillor Claire Darke, the City of Wolverhampton Council's Cabinet Member for Education, said: "If your child is in their final year at primary or junior school, you must apply for their secondary school place for 2018 by the end of this month.

"The application process is quick and easy and 75% of parents have already completed their applications; if you haven't yet started, or you are one of the 250 who have started but not completed an application, please get your skates on and get them in by Tuesday 31 October.

"With the closing date for applications just days away, time really is of the essence - and please remember that ensuring your application is made before the deadline will increase the chance of your child securing a place at a preferred school."

To apply for a school place, please visit Type=articles;Articleid=2548;Title=School admissions;. Applications are made through a secure website, and can be viewed and edited online up to the closing date of 31 October, 2017. Parents and guardians who apply online will be notified of their child's allocated school place on 1 March, 2018.

Councillor Darke added: "With 89% of schools now rated either Good or Outstanding by Ofsted, there has never been a better time to go to school in the City of Wolverhampton."
